seasonal notes
BY JULIA LIU '26
summer & some things i’ve learned: grief. teeth can cleave the same way as splinters. and, the price for peaches at our local supermarket have gone up. and, someone has left more hair strands in the sink. and, intention: get-home-safe’s, take-this-you’ll-be-hungry-later’s, let’s-go-on-a walk’s. love languages tucked discretely into languid whispers.
fall & some things i’ve lost: my eyelashes. my press-on nails. the daily crossword. the keys to my house and body. my train ticket back to school. the fish bone i swallowed. the spoon of vinegar i swallowed right after.
winter & some things i’ve experienced: temporary tattoos. dried blood on my nails from biting them during a movie. an oil lamp to keep warmth close. growing pains. a transition from EB Garamond. a lash serum before i cried it off. a fear of hunger—of surrender.
spring & some things that were created: a pesto pasta recipe. a house built out of cards. and, the thought it all started with you. and died with you, and started again. and, bad habits. and, mosquito bites. and, new hands; for loving and for losing.
