Fleeting Time
Alicia Tay '27

Where has the time gone?
Gripping onto our parent’s hands
For dear life
Taking our first steps into the world

Where has the time gone?
Playing a game of hide-and-seek –
Giggling while climbing trees
Peeking down from time to time

Where has the time gone?
Brimming with excitement
Grazing our hands over the steering wheel
Ready to step on the gas pedal

Where has the time gone?
When we first laid eyes on the one
Growing closer and closer
Love emerging all around

Where has the time gone?
Tears spilling from our eyes
As we say our final goodbyes
Moving into the new campus

Where has the time gone?
Grimacing from the burn of alcohol
Wondering how others could possibly
Revel in this feeling

Where has the time gone?
Our hearts thump loudly
Seeing unfamiliar faces
At our new workplace

Where has the time gone?
Indulging in the joy of a child
Holding their hands
As they take their first steps

Where has the time gone?
As our senses become duller

Watching the world pass by
As we rock back and forth

The time has long gone.
It seems as if it were just yesterday
These milestones occurred
Now a fleeting memory
